Federal College of Education, Okene, has been hailed for maintaining and sustaining standards in education. This was disclosed during the courtesy visit of Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Osikoya Rosemary Ojochenemi to the College on 2nd July, 2019.
The visit according to the Commissioner was part of the Ministry’s effort geared towards exploring possible areas of collaboration and co-operation with the College. Visibly excited with the warm reception accorded her and the level of infrastructural development in the College, she extolled the College for her excellent disposition to the educational needs of the state and the nation, and for being at the forefront of producing larger chunk of the human capacity needs in the teaching sector.
According to the Commissioner, the State would collaborate with the College in the training of high caliber professional teachers, by organizing capacity building programmes for public schools and the State Civil Service.
While commending the College for maintaining and sustaining standards in education, the Commissioner urged other Colleges in the State to borrow a leaf from the College for the enhancement of standards in their respective institutions. “They are coming to learn from the College in human capacity development”, she disclosed. Mrs. Osikoya also urged the College to ensure that student’s admission cut across the State.
While welcoming the Commissioner, the Provost of the College, Dr. Umar Hassan, stated that the College has been acknowledged for excellence and standards over the years, and would ensure that the cherished value was always maintained and sustained. He therefore assured the Commissioner that any certificate issued by the College was authentic and should be treated as such.
He also intimated her of the new courses introduced in the College to meet societal yearnings and demands. The courses include History, Government, Geography, Political Science and Early Childhood Education.
