Biography

The seasoned Librarian, Consummate Researcher, and Administrator was born on 31 st March 1964, in Muye, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State. He had his early education at LGE Primary School, Muye in 1971-1979 and Government Secondary School, Suleija, 1977-1982. Between 1982– 1984, he was at Bayero University, Kano, where he obtained a Diploma in library Science. Subsequently, in 1987 – 1993, he was at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he bagged Bachelor’s degree in Library Science (BLS).

Mallam Mahmud’s quest for higher educational pursuit propelled him to Bayero University, Kano, between 2000 – 2003, where he bagged his Masters in Library Science (MLS). He also holds a certificate in Computing and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, from Federal College of Education, Katsina, and Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto in 1997 and 2004 respectively.

Mallam Mahmud Nefene Usman is a personality with a laudable track record of experience, spanning three decades in the Library profession. He rose through the ranks by dint of hard work as Library Officer in 1984 to Chief Librarian in 2005 at Federal College of Education, Katsina. For his diligence and professional efficiency, he was appointed as Acting Librarian of the same College (FCE, Katsina), in 2002 to 2009. Similarly, in 2009, Mallam Mahmud secured an appointment as Polytechnic Librarian, Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazure, Jigawa State. Between July 2011 – January 2012, he was the Chairman of Interim Management Committee of the Polytechnic. In addition, he has held several other positions of responsibility in both the academics and administrative capacities, either as an External Examiner, Resource Person, External Assessor, among others.

Mallam Mahmud Nefene Usman has attended a wide range of workshops and conferences at both local and international levels. Among these includes, Digital Library International Collaboration and Cross Fertilization, in Civica South East Asia, Singapore, in 2013. He also has to his credit several publications, numerous research reports, and conference papers.

Mallam Mahmud Nefene Usman is a member of the Nigerian Library Association and Chartered Librarian of Nigeria (CLN). He is happily married and blessed with children.
